bad cupcake day

Today in Kye's class someone had a birthday and brought cupcakes to share.  His teacher always hands out the goodies as they are leaving the classroom to go home.  So I am waiting behind the fence to pick him up and he comes walking out with his folder (because kindergartners can't have backpacks) full of papers and his cupcake.  It was really windy today and stuff starts falling out of his folder.  He tries to grab his papers and smears the cupcake all down the front of his jacket.  He was pretty upset and said he couldn't eat it because the frosting was ruined.  The parents who brought the cupcake saw what happened and offer him another one.  So now he is happy because he has a new cupcake, Sam is happy because she now gets a cupcake (she is fine with eating a cupcake with ruined frosting) and I am happy because everyone else is happy.  I wish the story ended there.  So we are walking home,  I am carrying Sam's cupcake while pushing the stroller and Kye is carrying his cupcake and going on and on about how he can't wait to get home and eat his cupcake.  We are about 5 houses away from ours and all of a sudden the frosting slides off his cupcake and lands on the ground.  (I think because it was warm it melted the frosting just enough to make it slide.)  Kye breaks down in the middle of the street and it was all I could do to get him home.  Luckily I had some left over chocolate frosting in the fridge, so I refrosted his cupcake and he ate it.  Lesson learned... never take cupcakes as a birthday treat to kindergarten.

on the move

We came home from school and I put Hunter down on the carpet in the family room.  Max has a big project/report due tomorrow so I was busy helping him with that.  When I came back into the room I found Hunter under the table in the kitchen with the rug pad.  He rolled onto the tile, moved the little rug by the door, then pushed himself backwards until he got tangled up in the chair.  It won't be too much longer before he figures out the crawling thing.  He was pretty proud of himself.

me Kye

I didn't realize that the kindergartners also made self portraits, but I found this in Kye's folder from school.  He only went to art the first part of the year and the afternoon kindergarten classes go to art the second half of the year.  I love his title.  He did a great job also!

game time

The elementary school had an art fair, which we missed because I had a meeting to go to, and all the kids in art created pictures of themselves.  They had to come up with their own titles.  Max's class made their faces out of clay and then drew the rest.  I think he did a great job!

Sam's scripture

Tonight at FHE Sam's assignment was the scripture.  We usually let the kids pull a picture out of the GAK and we talk about the story and where in the scriptures you can find it.  Tonight Sam wanted to do it herself.  So she picked this picture because it had a baby in it.  She stood up and told us that a princess was holding the baby because the baby couldn't crawl and the baby liked to grab things.  She told us the baby would roll and get stuff.  She went on and on and on and on.  (The baby started to sound a lot like Hunter, but that could have been a coincidence.)  I thought it was so funny I ran to get the camera and she just kept on talking.  It didn't even phase her when I started taking pictures.  I don't think she ever mentioned the names Mary, Joseph or Jesus.

wild girl

This picture makes me laugh because this is so Sam!  This morning before church I told her to find her shoes and this is what she came down in.  I told her to put on her white sandals but she informed me these shoes were black like her dress so they matched.  How could I argue with that.  Then after church while we were inside making waffles she ran outside, got on the bike and started pedaling as fast as she could.  Sam loves riding bikes and going fast.

baby buzz

This morning I gave everyone haircuts.  Hunter's hair was getting really long so I decided to buzz it.  He looks so much older now.  This is his second hair cut, his first was back in November.

I dare you...

This morning at breakfast Hunter was eating some sweet potato puffs and Max asked me what they taste like.  I told him he could try one and he said "No way."  But then he proceeded to dare Kye to eat one, but he also said "No."  Sam, on the other hand, piped in and said she would eat it.  I gave her one and she popped it in her mouth and said, "that was good."  After the boys saw Sam eat it they each ate one and then asked for more.

waiting

The weather was being crazy today and the clouds were really cool looking so I stopped and took a picture on our way to pick up Max from school. I thought it might be my picture for the day. Of course Sam and Kye wanted to see the pictures so I gave them the camera. While we were waiting for Max to get out Sam starts taking random pictures in the back seat. She always wants to take pictures. I delete most of them for obvious reasons. But I thought this one was pretty good. Great job Sam!

AR quizzes

Kye is almost done with kindergarten and about a month ago he started taking Accelerated Reader(AR) quizzes. Basically he picks a book from a list, reads it, and then takes a comprehension test. He really likes it. We go to the library and he picks books for the next couple weeks, he can only take one quiz a day. His favorite books right now are the Biscuit books. When he was asked to write his favorite thing he did in kindergarten he wrote, "I like taking AR tests."

watermelon goatees

We went to Costco today and Kye would not let me leave without getting a watermelon, his #1 favorite food this week. He has a list going of his favorites, but that is for another post. So we had to have watermelon for dinner. Max grabbed his watermelon and said, "Look mom a watermelon goatee!" Kye's looks more like big lips to me, but he insisted it was also a goatee. How they come up with this stuff I don't know, but I love their imaginations.

girly girls

One of Sam's favorite things to do is paint nails. Today I let her paint my toes. I tried to paint hers in return but she wanted to do it herself!

four in the bath

This morning I went into the bathroom to give Hunter a bath. Sam walked in and asked if she could get in with him. A little later Max and Kye walked in to take a shower. When they saw Sam and Hunter they asked if they could just sit on the side and help give Hunter a bath. Before I knew it they had slid down into the tub to play with Hunter. I didn't think I would ever have them all in the tub at once.

primary rockers

Tonight was our wards annual Lip Sync. All the auxillery presidencies have to perform or else they get to talk in church. It was a fun time. This is our primary presidency and we rocked out to "Book of Mormon Stories."
Today I have to include two pictures, because Trevor is the High Priest Group leader and they sang "Send Me to Glory in a Glad Bag." A picture is worth a thousand words.

painting princess

My little girl loves to paint, draw, and color. When the boys come home and sit at the table to do homework, she is right there with them. She grabs her coloring book and crayons and says she is also doing her "homework".

pajama day

My boys favorite day of the year is pajama day at school. They love the fact they can just get out of bed and go to school without getting dressed. Kye asked me if he had to wear matching pajamas because he doesn't like when his tops and bottoms actually go together.

baby teefers

Hunter's top two front teeth finally broke through today! He has really had a hard time with these.

watching

Sam had an extra practice for dance tonight because they are performing this weekend. It was after school so I had to bring along the boys. For part of it they sat at the window and watched the girls dance. It was so cute I had to take a picture. I only had my cell phone, so the quality isn't the greatest.

Easter Outfits

I love dressing the kids up for Easter!
It was General Conference on Easter Sunday, so they wore their new outfits today.

cabbage and the cookie

We have decided to branch out from our typical vegetables of green beans, corn and peas. So I decided to try cabbage. All I wanted was for everyone to try it. Max, Kye and Sam were hesitant when they first saw the bowls in front of them. But when we announced that whoever tried the cabbage would get a girlscout cookie, Max and Sam jumped right in and started eating. Kye, on the other hand, just wanted the cookie. To make a long story short, Kye didn't get a cookie!

Tony Hawk

Max had to pick a person, read a biography of them, write a report, create a poster and read his report to the class wearing his poster.
We went to the library and the librarian showed us where to find all the biographies. He went up and down each aisle and came back with a book about Tony Hawk. He said it was the only person he recognized. He did most of it himself. I only helped draw the poster. I have never claimed to be an artist. It was a fun project.

The Little Mermaid

For homework this week Kye needed to write a story using the stickers at the top of a page. He ended up with the Little Mermaid, a wand, some jewels and a heart sticker. He was less then thrilled. We talked about his story all week and he didn't like any of our ideas. He needed a beginning, a middle and an ending to complete the assignment. So we told him he had to write at least three sentences. This is what he came up with. In case you can't read it I will translate.
"Ariel explored the ocean and she found magic jewels. She ate them. The seaweed turned into magic wands and jewels. Her heart fell out."

getting closer...

Sam is sort of wearing a dress today!!! She will not wear dresses or skirts unless she is going to church. I beg and plead with her to wear them, but she will have none of it. So when she came out in this outfit today I was pretty excited.

lost tooth!

Right before going to bed I convinced Kye to let me try and pull his loose tooth out. He actually agreed, which surprised me. I pulled a couple of times and it came out! He didn't want anyone else to know so he immediately ran to his room. He quickly put it under his pillow and ran back. Of course Max noticed the tooth was gone when he saw Kye and wanted to see it. Kye ran back to his room to get the tooth and couldn't find it! We spent the next 5 minutes looking for the tooth and found it stuck to the bottom of the pillow. He didn't want the tooth fairy to have the same problem so we put it in a baggie.

I'm trying...

A picture a day is my plan and I have already failed. Oh well, we can just pretend we colored eggs the day after Easter instead of the day before.
This year they discovered the magic crayon. They loved writing on the egg and then seeing their art appear after it came out of the dye. The stickers were also a favorite of Kye and Sam's. They had a hard time sharing the sticker sheet until I realized I could cut it in half. I don't know why it took me so long to think of that!

Easter

Easter is always a fun time at our house. The Easter Bunny hid our baskets and sent us on a treasure hunt. We had to find 15 eggs following the clues before we found our treats. Silly Rabbit! The kids had a great time coloring eggs, playing with their new toys, eating way to much candy, having an egg hunt and spending the entire day in their pajamas!

The Beginning

I have been talking about starting a blog forever, and have finally decided to do it! The kids are growing up so fast I am forgetting all the day to day fun things they do and say. I am hoping this blog will help me capture those moments. I have a vision of how I would like this to turn out, but I will see where it takes me.
