5K fun run

We participated in a Memorial Day Fun Run today.  Max, Kye and Sam rode their bikes.  Trevor pushed Hunter in the stroller and I ran.

mmm mmm good

Kye had a free ice-cream coupon to Uswirl, so we took the kids tonight.  It is a self-serve ice-cream shop.  They loved filling their cups with different flavors of ice-cream and picking out as many toppings as they wanted.  Sam couldn't get enough.

two wheeler

I took Sam's training wheels off her bike today. We walked her bike across the street to the park and I told her I would help her get started after I put Hunter in the shade. I was walking to the tree to park Hunter, who was in the stroller, when she came flying by me riding the bike like a pro. It only took her a couple times to figure out how to stop and not fall over. We went back to the house and she was doing figure eights in the driveway.

Kye's award

Kye had an awards assembly at school today. He received the citizenship award for the third trimester. He worked really hard and did a great job this year. I can't believe he is going to be a first grader.

dinner conversation

Tonight at dinner we began talking about a picture Kye had drawn earlier. He told me "this was a picture of a boy whose mom made him walk to school by himself, but he didn't know the way. So he went the wrong way and ended up in the 'bad guys' lab. He went in the back door and the lasers trapped him (like in the movie The Incredibles)." Kye and Max went on and on about things in the 'bad guys lab', superpowers, and how the boy got away. What I gathered from the conversation is that my boys really don't want to walk to school by themselves.  We suggested that maybe next year the boys could walk home together.

strawberry jam

I have never made freezer jam, but I have seen it done and didn't think it looked too hard. I had some strawberries that were going to go bad, so I thought I would try it. What a mess! Kye and Sam asked if they could help so I let them put the strawberries in the blender and push the buttons. I was using a spoon to push the strawberries down in the blender and I went to low. The blade caught my spoon, which made me jerk back and the strawberries went flying. It splattered on Sam's head, Kye's shirt, in my hair and all over the kitchen. The strawberries were blended too much, so the jam was very smooth. And then to top it all off, Trevor told me he likes store bought better

zombie attack

This morning after breakfast the kids had turned their bedroom into a haunted house. I guess they got tired of scaring each other so they all come walking down the stairs groaning like zombies, with their hands out in front of them. The boys keep groaning and Sam starts popping her pop gun. Then they attack the adults, we fought them off by tickling them to death. Somehow they ended up in this huge zombie pile.

I also wanted to make a note that when Sam heard today was Sunday and she had to wear a dress she said, "I don't like dresses anymore." Well, she almost made it a week.

cousins

My kids were so excited when I told them Brett, Erika, Zack, Brock and Elise were coming for the weekend. They love to play with their cousins. It has been so much fun to have them here. We went to the soccer games, played at the park, had a BBQ, ate way to much food, and us girls were able to get away to the outlet mall with no kiddos.

letter sandwich

Kye made his own sandwich and asked me to cut it into the letter "k". He thought it was awesome.

he's mobile

Hunter has started crawling! Today he was up on his hands and knees rocking back and forth. A friend suggested putting a toy in front of him just out of reach. I did and sure enough he crawled to get it.

new bike

Max was in desperate need of a new bike.  He was out riding his bike last weekend and his knees were practically hitting his chin.  He is growing too fast.  So he got an early birthday present this year.  We went to the store and he picked out a bike.  He wanted this orange Tony Hawk bike.  He was out riding it today for the first time with the tags still on it.

spelling bee

Max was in the 2nd grade spelling bee today. Each class sent their top 3 spellers to compete. They didn't send home a list to study, so we just thought of words and asked him to spell them. Max is an excellent speller and wanted to win so badly, or at least be in the top three to get a medal. I have never seen anyone more excited for a spelling bee. He made it to the third round and was asked to spell "tomorrow", he spelled it "t-o-m-m-o-r-o-w". He was devastated. After that round only 4 people were left and it went 2 more rounds. I went up and gave him a hug after the competition, he started tearing up and so I started crying because it broke my heart to see him so sad. He did an awesome job and I am so proud of him.

big announcement

Sam announced today that she likes dresses, but not skirts. It is kind of funny because she will only wear dresses to church, I stopped buying her casual play dresses. I am not going to let her wear her Easter dress to the park, or the black velvet one she got at Christmas, or the corduroy long sleeve because it is too hot. So she was very limited in her choices this morning. I'm not convinced this trend will last very long, but maybe next time I go shopping I will pick one up. All day people kept asking why Sam was in a dress.

orange juice skills

When we were first married we went to the Petty's every Sunday and ate waffles with them. We kept the tradition when we left Arizona and almost 10 years later we are still eating waffles every Sunday. As the kids have gotten bigger they have started to help. Kye's job is the orange juice. He makes it without any help. We like it when he gets the Braun out and mixes it. It is nice and frothy!

helping out

Kye asked to be the goalie today at his soccer game, even though it meant he had to wear a pink shirt. At first Kye was standing in the goal so Trevor went down to get him in the right spot and give him some pointers. Max ran down and was also giving advice. At this age level sometimes a parent will stand by the goal and keep the goalie focused.  Trevor came back and sat down to watch the game, but Max stayed down by the goal to help Kye.  Kye didn't seem to mind.

oops

I was trying to multi-task by feeding Hunter and myself at the same time. I would give Hunter a few bites of his baby food and then I would take a bite of my pizza. It went well, I finished my slice and he finished the baby food and was busy eating cheerios, or so I thought. I walked away and the next thing I hear is a huge crash on the floor. I look over and Hunter had grabbed my plate, which I left right by the highchair, and it dropped to the floor. He first looked up at Trevor then over at me, I wish I had captured the look on his face. It was a look of "Did I do that?" We didn't react so he just smiled and found something else to play with. Hunter is adorable! Sam kept asking, "Is Hunter in trouble?"

creepy crawley

Every Thursday after school Max attends a Mad Science class. He loves it. Today he learned about bugs and for their activity they got to create a bug of their own. This is a picture of his bug. The balls at the end of the orange pipe-cleaners are his eyes. Max arranged his bug so it could see the camera.

Sam's chasse'

Tonight after dinner Sam wanted to dance for Hunter. She got up from the table, turned Hunter's highchair around so he could watch her and started to dance. She loves to sashay around the room.  This isn't the best picture, but it is the best shot I got. She was moving all over the place.

smooshed banana

Hunter is getting good at self feeding. I gave him a banana for the first time and he loved it! It was really ripe so I just broke off a piece and gave it to him. He ate it so fast I barely got a picture.

May's card club

I joined a card club a few months back. I am not really creative or artsy so I have enjoyed having a project to get some creative juices flowing. Each month we pick a theme, then meet and swap cards. This month we were doing birthdays. We were supposed to make 12 of one card and give each person in the group 2 each. Instead I decided to make 6 cards of 2 designs and give everyone in the group one of each. I thought mine turned out cute so I decided to post them. The dragon is a digi stamp from http://www.doodledragonstudios.com/ and the present is from the Cricut.

mother's day

The kids were so excited to give me all the things they made for me at school. Kye brought something home from school almost every day last week. He would come in and tell me to close my eyes. He would then run and hide my present so I wouldn't see it before today. Max made me a bookmark. Sam, Hunter and Trevor gave me a little camera to keep in my purse, so I will always have one with me.  Trevor cooked dinner; waffles, eggs and sausage. And yesterday on their way home from camping the boys stopped by Marie Calendars and got a pie. Mmmmmmm I love their pies. I don't have a favorite, I like them all!

at the ranch

Last night was the Fathers and Sons campout. Trevor took Max and Kye. They drove a couple hours to a ranch and spent the night in a field. All the kids were running around and Max came to Trevor and told him he was ready for bed (this was around 9:30). When Trevor went to get Kye, he found him in the back of the truck curled up in a ball trying to sleep. My boys are not night owls. The field next to them was full of cows. Trevor said he didn't sleep very well because of all the "mooing". The boys, however, were so exhausted they slept like rocks. This morning when they got up they watched the cowboys brand and castrate the calves. Trevor had to answer a lot of questions after that. The boys had a fun time.

field day

I have been corrected by the boys, pajama day is NOT their favorite day of the school year, field day is! Today was field day at school. They were both so excited. Kye got up at 6:00 this morning and came out of his room dressed for school. He did not want to be late. They had fun playing water games and being outside all day!

milk bubbles

Tonight at dinner I wanted a straw and so of course everyone else did too. They were blowing bubbles in their water and I asked if they have ever done that in milk. They said "No, what happens?" I asked if anyone wanted to try it. Kye said he would and Max and Sam ran to the other side of the room thinking it was going to explode or something. Anyway, when they saw that it made bubbles they each wanted a glass of milk to try. I love the simple pleasures in life.

yummy yummy

Kye loves watermelon. I guess I wasn't really paying attention to my cutting because each piece he pulled out kept getting bigger and bigger. He pulled this one out and I said, "Kye just eat one piece at a time." He showed me and it was one very large slice.

relaxing

Tonight after dinner we went outside to eat popsicles and enjoy the weather.  It is so nice right now. We try and stay outside as much as possible before it gets too hot!

the threat

The threat at our house is if you don't pick up your toys then mom or dad will pick them up and throw them away.  So today I was sweeping the kitchen floor and Sam put together a puzzle and left it on the floor.  I kept asking her to pick it up and put it away.  She finally said, "Mom it's ok if you throw it away."  I said, "No, you come pick it up and you throw it away."  I said this thinking she just doesn't want to clean it up.  She walks over and starts putting the puzzle away.  She gets it all in the box, puts the lid on and tosses it in the garbage.  When I finished sweeping I came around the corner and saw the garbage can.  I couldn't help but laugh.

monopoly

Max discovered Monopoly a few months back and loves the game.  He is starting to figure out strategy and how to really play the game.  It is fun.

...and he scored

Today at soccer Kye made his first goal!  We were pretty excited.  He was all smiles after that.  This picture is before the game when they were warming up, I didn't take any pictures during the game.  Oops!
